  • Author: Rhea
  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

A quick and easy homemade iced chai latte that tastes better than the coffee shop version. This recipe uses a concentrated tea base and real spices to create a creamy, flavorful drink in just 5 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 black tea bags (English Breakfast or Assam)
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) water
  • 2 tsp chai spice mix (cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves, black pepper)
  • 23 tbsp simple syrup or honey
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240ml) cold milk (whole, 2%, or oat milk)
  • 1.5 cups ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Boil 1/2 cup of water.
  2. Remove from heat and add tea bags and chai spice mix. Steep for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Remove tea bags and squeeze gently to extract flavor. Discard bags.
  4. While the tea is still warm, stir in sweetener and vanilla extract until fully dissolved.
  5. Cool the tea concentrate quickly by placing it in the freezer for 1 minute or adding a few ice cubes.
  6. Fill a tall glass 3/4 full with ice cubes.
  7. Pour the cold chai concentrate over the ice.
  8. Pour cold milk over the tea.
  9. Stir gently to combine and serve immediately.

Notes

The key to a good chai latte is using a concentrated tea base. Do not skip the vanilla extract as it enhances the flavor. Use cold milk for the best texture. If using honey, warm it slightly with a teaspoon of hot tea first to thin it out. The tea base can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
